Requesting Temporary International Access

Bluefield University helps protect university accounts and systems by monitoring and managing access from international locations. Students, faculty, and staff traveling outside of the United States and U.S. territories who need access to university systems while abroad should submit a temporary international access request before traveling.

Who Should Submit a Request?

Submit this request if you will need access to university systems while outside of the United States or U.S. territories, including services such as:
  • Microsoft 365
  • Email
  • Canvas
  • VPN
This process applies to:
  • Students
  • Faculty
  • Staff

Before You Submit a Request

Please keep the following in mind before submitting a request:
  • Requests should be submitted at least 3 business days before travel whenever possible.
  • Access is temporary and approved only for the dates provided in the request.
  • Some requests may require additional review by the IT Department.
  • Additional information may be requested if needed.
  • Approval is not guaranteed.

Information You Will Need

The request form will ask for:
  • Your name and university email address
  • Your student or employee ID number
  • Country where access is needed
  • Departure date
  • Return date
  • Reason for international access
  • Any additional relevant information

Approval and Activation Process

Once submitted:
  • Your request is reviewed by the IT Department
  • Approved requests are automatically activated on the approved departure date
  • Access automatically expires after the approved return date
You will receive email notifications when:
  • Your request is approved or denied
  • Your access becomes active
  • Your access expires

Security and Account Responsibility

By submitting a request, you acknowledge that:
  • Access is temporary and intended only for legitimate university-related academic or business purposes.
  • University credentials must never be shared with another person.
  • All university policies and applicable laws remain in effect while traveling internationally.
  • Access may be revoked at any time if suspicious activity or policy violations are identified.
