How to Find your Device's MAC Address

For performance and security, all consoles and smart TVs need to be added to BU's approved device list. Please fill out the Approved Device form to gain access to the BU-IOT network. To complete this form, you will need to locate and provide your device's MAC address.

This knowledgebase article will offer step-by-step instructions on how to locate your device's MAC address so it can be added to the approved device list for BU-IOT.

1: Nintendo Switch

  • Go to the Home menu.
  • Select System Settings.
  • Scroll down and select Internet.
  • The Nintendo Switch's MAC address will be listed under System MAC Address.

2: PlayStation 5

  • Go to the Home screen.
  • Select the Settings gear icon in the upper right corner.
  • Select System.
  • Select Console Information.
  • The PlayStation 5's MAC address will be displayed at the bottom of the list.
  • Please note that you are using "MAC address (Wi-Fi)".

3: PlayStation 4

  • Go to the Home screen.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select System Settings.
  • Select System Information.
  • The PlayStation 4's MAC address will be displayed on this screen.

4: PlayStation3

  • Select Settings on the PS3 Home Menu.

  • Navigate down and select System Settings.

  • Select System Information. Here you will find your MAC address. Be sure to note down the entire code, including colons.


5: Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S

  • Find MyXbox on the Xbox dashboard.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select Network Settings under General.
  • Select Advanced Settings under the Network Settings tab.
  • The Xbox's MAC address will be displayed for Wireless (Wi-Fi).

6: Xbox One

  • Find MyXbox in the Xbox Dashboard.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select Network in the Settings pane.
  • Select Advanced Settings from the Network Settings tab.
  • The Xbox One's Wireless MAC address will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

7: Xbox 360

  • Go to System Settings and then Network Settings.

  • Choose your network (Wired or Wireless).

  • Select Configure Network.

  • Go to Additional Settings and then Advanced Settings.

  • You will see the MAC address listed.


8: Roku TV

  • Press the Home button on your remote.
  • Scroll down and select Settings.
  • Scroll down and select Network.
  • Select About.
  • The Roku's Wireless MAC address will be displayed on this screen.

9: Apple TV

  • Go to the main menu on your Apple TV.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select About.
  • The Apple TV's Wireless MAC address will be displayed under Wireless ID.

10: Fire TV Stick

  • Navigate to the home screen.
  • Go to Settings under the gear icon.
  • Select My Fire TV or This Device.
  • Select About.
  • The Fire TV's Wireless MAC address will be displayed under MAC Address (Wi-Fi).

11: Amazon Fire TV

  • From the home screen, navigate to Settings.

  • Select System.

  • Go to About.

  • Scroll down to Network.

  • Look for the MAC Address (Wi-Fi) or MAC Address (wireless).


12: Google TV

  • Open the Settings button at the top right corner of the TV.

  • Choose System, then choose About.

  • Select Status, then MAC address.

  • Alternatively, you can find the MAC address after Chromecast setup by opening the Google Home app, or by selecting: Contact & Support → System Information → MAC Address (Wired/Wireless).


13: Vizio TV

  • Press the Menu button on the remote and select Network.

  • Press Manual Setup.

  • The Wireless MAC address will appear on the screen.

  • Alternatively, you can find the MAC address by clicking on the Settings page, then Setup, then Network, then IP Address.


14: PC

  • Open Command Prompt (Windows + R, type cmd, hit Enter).

  • Type: getmac or ipconfig /all.

  • Look for Physical Address (this is the MAC address).


15: Mac

  • Select the Apple icon in the top left corner.

  • Choose System Preferences.

  • Select Network.

  • Click the button in the bottom right corner that says Advanced.

  • Ensure Hardware is selected at the top and look for MAC Address. The characters that appear next to this are your MAC address for your computer.


16: Kindle - Colorsoft/Scribe/PaperWhite

  • From the Home screen, press Menu.

  • Select Settings.

  • Press the Menu button again.

  • The Wi-Fi MAC Address is located toward the bottom of the screen in the Device Info section.
